Monitoring of groundworks was carried out on a site on Market Street, within the historic centre of Ballyshannon (DG107-053). The site comprised the rear backyard of a townhouse, a Protected Structure (Donegal RPS No. 346) listed on the NIAH (40852020).

Monitoring was carried out in June 2025. The topsoil in the backyard of the townhouse was removed. A layer of rubble and made-up ground was found underneath. It comprised sand in the south-east corner, sandy gravel in the north-east corner and a mix of topsoil and rubble everywhere else. Modern debris, such as brick, ceramic and glass bottles, was found mixed through the made-up ground.

No archaeological features or artefacts were found during the removal of topsoil from the site.
