The archaeological monitoring programme was carried out between 19 March and 23 June 2025. Monitoring revealed that the entire works area had been heavily disturbed previously by the numerous and varied services that have been laid throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries. The trench depth of c.0.85m was not deep enough to reach below the modern layers of filling and levelling material. No undisturbed archaeological deposits were identified. Two sherds of 17th-century pottery were recovered from the trench on Bank Place (outside the Metro bar). This pottery was found within a layer of building rubble (perhaps from the houses that were demolished on Bank Place in the 1960s, where the Millennium Forum currently stands), which also contained later pottery sherds and plastics.
