It was proposed to upgrade the existing sewer network in the environs of the village of Carrigart in County Donegal under the overall Donegal Towns & Villages – Contract No. 3 Kilmacrennan, Carrigart and Mountcharles Sewage Scheme.
The results from the archaeological monitoring of the WwTP site in Carrigart revealed that there was significant disturbance across the whole of the southern and eastern portions of the site, with also the suggestion that part of the original construction works in the 1970s involved topsoil stripping of the entire area prior to construction commencing.
The only largely undisturbed area of the present site was located in the north-west corner, where, although there was still evidence of recent disturbance, there were patches of relatively undisturbed ground. However in these areas nothing of archaeological interest was noted
