Test excavations were carried out at Ard na Glaise, Kilmacrennan, prior to the construction of a proposed development. The site consisted of a rectangular-shaped field and part of an existing housing estate. The field had been partially developed during the construction of the housing estate: a short stretch of tarmacked
laneway had been built. The field has become slightly overgrown since the first development on the site. The part of the site in the housing estate consisted of a green area and part of a roadway.
The test excavation was carried out in June 2025. In total, six trenches were excavated. The natural was found to be a compact, mottled, mid-yellow and grey boulder clay. In some areas, the natural was slightly waterlogged. Several land drains were found in the trenches. No archaeological features were identified, and no artefacts were recovered during the test excavations.
