Test excavation was carried out at the site of a proposed new housing development at a pre-planning phase. The site consisted of a single field of improved pasture on a gentle north-facing slope with an existing housing estate to the south. Six test trenches were excavated across the site with one running east-west in an adjoined area and five excavated north-south across the main area. Trenches varied in length between 50m and 100m. The area had already been very disturbed with over 2m of imported soils, clays and gravels used to level and grade the field, finished off with variable depths of topsoil. No archaeology was found.
