Archaeological test trenching at the site at Coolfadda, Bandon, County Cork was carried out on 24 and 25 September 2025. The testing was undertaken following a programme of geophysical survey. Ten test trenches with a total length of 490m were excavated within the site. Natural subsoil and shale were found between 0.1m and 0.65m below the surface level.
Test trenches included those that were placed to target anomalies identified from a geophysical survey that had been carried out in the north-western part of the site (25R0168), but none of those were found to represent archaeological features. A range of linear features was identified within the trenches, as had been seen from the geophysical survey; a sample of these were manually investigated and all were found to be of a similar profile consistent with agricultural furrows; material found within these linear features confirmed them to be modern.
Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during the testing programme.
