Four test trenches totalling 460 linear metres were excavated at Janeville, Carrigaline, Co. Cork (Shannonpark townland). Works took place on 9 June 2025.

The site was heavily disturbed during the construction of the surrounding housing estate. Large portions of the site was previously stripped of topsoil and hardcore stone was introduced (in the south-west and north-west quarters of the site). A large buildup of introduced material was encountered in the north-east quarter of the site. This comprises 1.2m of mixed soil, building rubbish and stones. This material was resting directly on top of the original topsoil and the ground appeared undisturbed beneath it. The trench was excavated to the depth of the undisturbed, natural subsoil (1.5m) through the overburden.

The remainder of the site (mostly the south-east quarter) comprise undisturbed, original ground. Trench 4 was shortened by c. 20m due to a pile of gravel present on site. The depth of the trenches varied from 0.05–1.5m.

Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the course of the works.
