2025:132 - Ballincolly, Cork

John Cronin & Associates (JCA) were commissioned to undertake licensed archaeological testing at a proposed development site set within two land blocks at Ballincolly, to the north of Ballyvolane, Cork. Previous programmes of archaeological testing were undertaken within the Phase 1 and Phase 2 portions of the wider development site under Excavation Licence 21E0257 in May 2021 and Excavation Licence 22E0430 in December 2022.

The testing programme demonstrated that the lands have been subject to intensive tillage agriculture for many decades and these practices have left their mark on the underlying substrata. Excluding the evidence of this agricultural activity, the subsoil across the tested area was sterile. No artefacts, features or deposits that could be considered to be archaeological in nature were revealed during the testing programme.
