An archaeological impact assessment including test excavation was carried out in Rathgoggin Middle townland on the southern outskirts of Charleville to assess the potential impact of the proposed construction of a single dwelling house. A levelled ringfort (CO002-066) is located 70m to the southwest of the proposed development but no surface trace of the monument survives.

Six test trenches were excavated within those areas of the development that will be subject to the most ground disturbance. Three test trenches were opened across the footprint of the proposed house, one along the access way, one at the parking area to the front of the house and another at the proposed percolation area. Testing revealed a relatively deep cover of topsoil overlying solid clay and no features or finds of archaeological significance were exposed in any of the excavated areas.
