In 2023, Cork County Council was granted planning permission to construct a new Waste Water Treatment Plant and associated pipework installation serving the village of Ballycotton in East Cork. Topsoil stripping was carried out at the treatment plant facility to the southwest of the village over a number of weeks in March 2023, followed by the excavation of a pumping station and the installation of the pipe network within the village sporadically over 2023 and 2024. All groundworks were carried out under strict archaeological supervision and no features or finds of significance were uncovered.
