Archaeological excavation took place at Ballard Shillelagh, Co. Wicklow. The excavation identified four areas of archaeological interest, revealing evidence of prehistoric activity; a single-use hearth was discovered, surrounded by fourteen stake-holes and three post-holes, indicating a possible windbreak. This hearth contained a Middle Bronze Age domestic pot, dating to approximately 1400-1200 BC, along with cat bones. Additionally, three isolated features resembling small hearths, which lacked associated post- or stake-holes, were identified. Based on their morphology, these features are believed to be of prehistoric origin. The three hearths were located on low ground along a south-east facing slope. As well as a post-medieval water reservoir tank linked to a 19th-century workhouse.
