Archaeological test trenching took place to determine the potential impact of development on the Abbey Grounds, Wicklow Town, Co. Wicklow. There had been an earlier phase of testing which uncovered human remains. Please see summary for 22E0258.
The archaeology identified during test trenching in March 2024 at the location of the amphitheatre comprised of two walls, a linear/gully, two linear features, a path/paved area and two pits which were filled with stone. No human remains were uncovered. One of the pits was filled with red brick which appeared to be handmade, and the other was filled with stone and mortar.
