Archaeological testing was carried out in June 2024 at Mariner’s Point, Greenhills Road, Ballyguilemore, Wicklow Town. This report follows on from a geophysical survey (Leigh 2024; Licence No. 24R0250) carried out on the site. 14 test trenches were excavated across the site measuring 748 linear meters. Testing revealed 17 archaeological features within three areas of archaeological significance, primarily located within the eastern half of the site. The archaeological areas comprise two single pits (AA1), three post-holes, three pits and a linear feature (AA2) and a cluster of seven pits together with a possible hearth (AA3). The archaeological areas are located within close proximity to one another and concentrated towards the central area of the site where the ground is relatively flat in comparison to the steeply sloping ground on the western end. No definitive dating evidence was recovered from the investigated features and therefore a close chronological dating cannot be discerned at present. Evidence of 19th-century agricultural activity was also uncovered, in the form of field furrows.
