In 2020, Stafford McLoughlin Archaeology carried out test trenching under Licence 20E0247. During this investigation, a ploughed-out burnt mound was identified in low-lying ground near a stream at the eastern end of the site. This feature will be preserved in situ, as the area will be located in a fill zone due to its natural slope toward the river, with ground levels set to be raised by between 1.5-2m to accommodate floor levels.
The site previously tested by Stafford Mc Loughlin was enlarged and to assess potential archaeological impact of a residential development, a total of 477m of test trenches were excavated across the untested area of the development site. The six test trenches excavated at the site revealed no significant archaeological features or deposits. The stratigraphy encountered across the trenches was relatively uniform, consisting of topsoil overlying natural subsoil.
No archaeological features were found during test trenching.
