Test trenching was carried out prior to the construction of a proposed development. The boundary of the site was located within the Zone of Archaeological Potential of a nearby ringfort (WM031-061). The site was
occupied by a working farmyard comprising stables, sheds, outbuildings, and other associated structures. Some of the site was pastureland.
Five test trenches were excavated across the development. The trenches within the farmyard revealed a large amount of ground raising and levelling with rubble and gravel. The height of raised ground was between 0.4m and 0.9m. Below the rubble, the natural was a compact clay. No archaeological features were found.
Two trenches were located within pastureland; these contained no archaeology. The natural consisted of a mix of gravel, sand, and a compact silty clay.
No archaeological features were found during testing, and no artefacts were recovered.
