Archaeological monitoring was undertaken on behalf of Spectrum Ltd at Deerpark, Ballynacarrigy, Co. Westmeath on 15 July 2024. The site is within the Zone of Notification for the recorded Deerpark (RMP WM010-035).
An area of approximately 6m (northwest – southeast) by 11m was stripped to accommodate a compound and an access turning point. Little to no topsoil was present. The sod layer directly overlay a sterile mid-brown boulder clay which in turn overlay the weathered limestone bedrock. This boulder clay was encountered at a depth of 0.1–0.15m.
No features, deposits or artefacts of archaeological interest were identified during the groundworks. Consequently, there was no impact to the Deerpark. No further action is required within this area.
