Monitoring was undertaken at a house situated at the south-eastern limit of Barrack Street in the village of Passage East. Whilst the property is not on the list of Protected Structures of Waterford City and County Council, it is within the Zone of Protection of the Sites and Monuments Record (ref: WA18-009, settlement cluster).
The house was damaged in a vehicular accident which resulted in the necessity to undertake structural repairs to the south-western corner of the building. The wall below the window was removed, reinforced and replaced, under archaeological supervision. The finds from the wall foundation trench consisted of the indent of a wine bottle, 2 sherds of earthenware and the front of a door knob, plus a small amount of butchered animal bone and shell. All were early modern and coeval with the building of the premise, estimated to be between 1810 and 1820 (NBHS Reg. No. 22807035). No further action was recommended.
