Planning permission has been granted by Waterford County Council for the removal of existing water training tanks and the erection of a shed for the storage of rowing boats at Lismore Road, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford. Cappoquin Boat House, the premises used by Cappoquin Rowing Club, is located on the northern bank of the River Blackwater. Cappoquin Rowing Club was founded in 1862 and is one of the oldest clubs in County Waterford. There are two archaeological sites located in close proximity and upstream of Cappoquin Boat House, the site of a 17th-century bridge (WA021-014001) and a small section of an old road which led to the bridge on the opposite side of the River Blackwater (WA021-014002).

The water training tanks are located on the south-east side of the Boat House. The area measures c. 15m by 10m. The concrete and stone sides of the two water training tanks were demolished by a small track machine and the water drained off. The concrete base of the two tanks was left in situ. Stone fill was introduced into the area to level the ground for the base of the shed. A total of 6 pads were excavated on the footprint of the foundations of the storage shed by the track machine. The pads were excavated into the subsoil to a depth of c. 1m x 0.7m wide.

No archaeological features, stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded in the area of the shed or within the foundation pads while monitoring ground disturbance works.
