Test Trenching was carried out at Davitt's Quay, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford. The site was part of a former Dairy/Creamery complex demolished in the early 21st century. A total of 6 test trenches were
excavated within the site. Each trench measured 0.5m in width, and in total 44m of linear trenches were excavated. Test trenches were excavated to a depth of between 0.2–1.2m, with natural clay exposed in Trench 4 at the depth of 1.2m. Spoil from excavated test trenches was examined for finds visually. Material removed included disturbed modern layers, including gravel and rubble with bricks overlaying concrete slabs and old flooring. In Trenches 2, 3 and 6, services, including active water pipe, old water and gas pipe and service boxes, were encountered.
No archaeological features were exposed, and no finds were retrieved. The test trenching results confirm the results of former assessments and suggest that this area is heavily disturbed.
The area available for testing was limited; this, along with the nature of the site and the presence of concrete slabs and services, together with the level of disturbance, indicates that additional mitigation is feasible only post-demolition and grubbing of the foundations.
