A programme of archaeological testing was undertaken as part of seeking planning permission to construct an extension to a vacant dwelling house at Lisnamrock, Ballingarry, Thurles. The site is located close to a castle (TS055-006001) and bawn (TS055-006002). The castle, unclassified, is in the same field as the dwelling house to be extended, c. 35m to its southeast.  There are no surface traces of the bawn.

The extension occupied vacant ground to the west of the one-storey dwelling house. Three test trenches were opened. The trenches were disturbed due to the presence of stone culverts, building debris overlying the defunct culverts, field drains and modern plastic drainage pipes. According to the local landowner the area had been subject to extensive land drainage improvement works.  No archaeological remains and/or features were uncovered in the course of the testing works.
