Archaeological monitoring associated with the grant of planning permission for the construction of an extension to an existing dwelling house and associated site works was undertaken at Newross, Newport. A ringfort, which is located almost 23m to the east of the development site, is separated from the site by an earthen bank boundary.

During the course of the monitoring of ground works nothing was uncovered that could be associated with the nearby monument. The site had been highly disturbed by the building of a now-defunct large septic tank just to the west of the existing dwelling house. An extensive soak-pit was exposed in the north foundation trench for the extension, a defunct waste outlet pipe was also exposed, extending east-west across the stripped grassed area whilst modern dumping of domestic debris was uncovered in the east side of the excavated imprint of the garage site.  All of this disturbance was associated with the construction of the existing dwelling house and its subsequent occupation.
