Rubble and soil were removed from the area inside the entrance doorway to Loughlohery Keating castle to facilitate access to the stairs in advance of conservation works. The lower steps of the stairs were revealed, as was a layer of soil with a high content of lime extending from the foot of the stairs across the entrance lobby. This appears to have been a secondary floor level. It was not further investigated.
