Archaeological test excavation took place in advance of social housing development. This occurred in two phases – October and December 2024. During the first phase, the partial remains of six grave cuts were identified. The second phase took place upon approval of a revised method statement. Five burials were archaeologically excavated during the second phase. A small shard of English glazed c.12th-century pottery was recovered from the grave cut associated with burial no. 5.
The site work was completed on 12 December 2024 and the preliminary report is currently being compiled with preparation of analysis of the remains by an osteoarchaeologist.
