Zone 5 – Friarsgrange & Ballinard of Uisce Éireann Scheme was archaeologically monitored. The scheme consists of undertaking rehabilitation of approximately 17100m of uPVC water main and all the associated assets together with any service transfers that may be required within public road/public realm from Ballinard townland at the junction with L6302 and R692 Fethard to Cloneen Road at ITM 625612 635847 and concludes at Killenaule Reservoir at ITM 621799 646402. The works will comprise the rehabilitation of the existing CI/AC main between Ballinard WTP and Coolbaun with a 315mm PE SDR11 mains; and replacement of the existing mains between Coolbaun pump station to Killenaule Reservoir (and any associated assets required) with a single 315mm PE SDR11 main.
Zone 5 – Friarsgrange & Ballinard, is centred on ITM 625501 636333 and was archaeologically monitored. It passes tower-house TS070-031 and the adjacent enclosure TS070-032 (centred on ITM 625501 636333). The L2303 and consequently the route of the scheme traverses through their eastern zones of archaeological potential, in which the route may have been partially built upon the enclosure. Assessment of satellite photography identified that a second possible enclosure is situated on the opposite, eastern side of the road and the scheme’s route, directly opposite both the tower-house and the enclosure. This zone of archaeological potential that the scheme traverses measures 200m from ITM 625496 636430 to 625526 636238.
No archaeology was encountered during the works and the scheme is scheduled to resume in 2025.
