Archaeological monitoring took place of Phase 1 of topsoil stripping in advance of quarry extension at Ballybeg and Aghneneadle. Co. Tipperary. This was as a consequence of one of the hearth features being identified by geophysical survey and two were found only as a result of the test excavation strategy. The recommendation for monitoring also took into account the overall size of the proposed development as well as the fact that some sections of the site proved too steep to either conduct geophysical survey or to archaeologically test excavate.

Monitoring of Phase 1 took place on 8 and 9 April 2024 and the Phase 1 monitoring report was produced on 22 April 2024. The overall quarry development is set out in annual phases, in which it will incrementally extend from the current quarry to the north-west. Each phase of topsoil stripping and subsequent quarrying shall be c. 25m in width, and for the full northeast to southwest width of the quarry site.

Natural subsoil conditions were achieved and no archaeology was encountered.
