Archaeological testing was carried out over the course of one day in March 2024 using a mechanical excavator fitted with a flat grading bucket. Three trenches were excavated across the site of development following the demolition of a standing building on site. Testing revealed nothing of archaeological significance.
The results of the test trenching have confirmed that the site was subject to several phases of development in the later post-medieval and early modern period. A number of pit-like features were identified but these are not archaeological and are filled with rubble, stone, occasional brick and early modern ceramic. The site also contains a number of soak pits filled with deposits of fist-sized stone. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified and given the disturbances across the site the potential for archaeology within the site is very low.
