An AIA on the Dromore Blue way involved an examination of existing desktop sources carried out in conjunction with site inspection. Following collation of this data and examination of development proposals, one area (Ballynascarva Bridge – Townland of Lisnalong; Parish of Aghnamullen; ITM 664544, 816350) was chosen for additional assessment in the form of archaeological test excavation, undertaken on 7 June 2024.
A single test trench was excavated, aligned north-east/south-west across the site and measured 68m in length. The excavated topsoil comprised friable, light brown clay loam. This was consistent in depth and averaged 0.55m across the trench. The exposed subsoil consisted of a soft light brown/grey marl. No sites, features, structures or objects of archaeological significance were identified in the course of the test excavations. The area was reinstated on completion of the works.
Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during the course of the works.
