Archaeological monitoring was carried out at Balreask Old, Dublin Road, Navan, Co. Meath. The rear and west extent of the property is adjacent to Swan Road. The site comprises a detached two-storey dwelling within a plot measuring c. 0.23ha with access from the west via Dublin Road. The site rises gently to the west. The proposed monitoring was carried out in fulfilment of a condition attached to the Planning, by Meath County Council.
There are no known monuments on the site, however it is located within the zone of the archaeological potential of two monuments, with their location registered in the plot adjacent and to the north of the site. These include a church (ME025-036-) and a graveyard (ME025-036001-). Both monuments are depicted as Site of Old Chapel and Burial Ground on the
1835 map, and the current development site appears to be adjacent to and outside of the Burial Ground boundary as depicted on both the 1835 and the 1909 maps, but within the Glebe lands demarcated on the 1835 map. The nearest Protected Structure is Athlumney House (RPS 90943).
No features of archaeological significance were identified during monitoring, and no finds were recovered. There will therefore be no archaeological impact. No further mitigation is required.
