Testing was undertaken as part of an archaeological assessment of a proposed development at Duleek House, Duleek Co. Meath. The AIA concluded that the Study Area is within an area of high archaeological potential and specific areas within the boundaries of the Study Area are of known archaeological potential. As such, archaeological investigation is advised in advance of all subsurface interventions proposed. Archaeological remains are present at very shallow depths within the Grange. Excavation and vegetation clearance in this area should be avoided if at all possible. The risk of archaeological remains could not be adequately assessed in front of Duleek House without wide ground reduction and stepped access. This area should be reduced well in advance of the development as an archaeological exercise, in case there are archaeological remains at 3m and below depth.
Natural varied in type and levels across the site - near the grange, shallow, pebbly gravelly. Near the house, at 3.4m plus. In the field to the southeast of the house, clayey at 0.4 to 1.2m depth.
