Archaeological test excavations took place on the site of a proposed housing estate development which is located at the northern outskirts of Nobber, Co. Meath (Muff townland). The site is currently occupied by two small fields. The eastern field is disused greenfield, the western one appears to be well managed. The test excavation was undertaken on 17 September 2024.
Four test trenches were excavated across the site totalling 142 linear metres. The topsoil in the northern portion of Trench 1 contained a significant amount of refuse. The topsoil comprised mid-brown, organic-rich, loose silty clay and varied in depth between 0.35‑0.5m. The subsoil comprised mid-yellowish-gray silty clay with sand and gravel patches. Some additional construction rubbish mixed within the topsoil was noted along the southern boundary of the site. Trenches T5, T6 and T7 were not excavated.
No buried archaeological sites, features or objects of archaeological significance were recorded during the test excavation.
