Test excavation was undertaken on 19 March 2024 in dry, cool conditions. Nine trenches totalling 380 linear metres were excavated across the site. Constraints in the form of a permanent fence, landscaping, self-seeded trees and a steep slope resulted in a reduction from the proposed 525 linear metres to 380.
Topsoil comprised a dark brown silty clay with frequent modern debris throughout. It varied in depth across the site between 0.2-0.5m deep. The subsoil comprised a compact light grey/brown clay with frequent stone inclusions.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in the course of the works.
