An Archaeological Assessment (test trenching) was conducted at Beauforts Place,
Abbeyland, Navan, Co. Meath. A total of 5 test trenches were excavated within the site. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and in total, 211m of linear trenching was excavated. The test trenches were excavated down to the natural subsoil to a depth of between 0.3-0.8m. The results of test trenching and examination of aerial imagery suggest the site was previously subject to ground disturbances. The topsoil was introduced to the site, and this accounts for the discrepancy in its depth as
recorded during testing.
The eastern portion was occupied by Beaufort Family Home, Flower Hill House,
demolished during the consturction of of N51. The western portion of the site had previously been a walled garden, with sections of the wall still upstanding.
No archaeological features or deposits were exposed, and no finds were recovered.
