Test Excavations were undertaken at Ashewood, Ashbourne, Co. Meath (Townland of Dunreagh, Donaghmore Civil Parish, Barony of Ratoath) on 8-9 January 2024.
A total of 18 trenches were excavated across the site (1085 linear meters). The topsoil comprised friable, light brown silty clay, with a variety of depth between 0.25-0.5m across the site. This overlay a light brown compact clay subsoil. Several trenches required extension, reduction or relocation to avoid the overhead ESB wire.
No sites, features, structures or objects of archaeological significance were identified in the course of the test excavations.
