Archaeological testing was carried out in advance of a proposed development at the West Vets site, Carrownalurgan townland, that occupies a triangular plot on the north side of the R335 road, on the southern side of Westport town. Open fields are to be found to the west and north and the eastern part of the site is occupied by buildings relating to the former use of the site as a vet clinic. Ten trenches were excavated. Topsoil across the site was typically 0.4m thick at the drier southern and central part of the site and thickened to up to 0.7m at the wetter northern part. Nothing of archaeological significance was revealed.
