2024:481 - Ballybeg, Bangor Erris, Mayo

This site was archaeologically assessed in August 2024. A total of 4 test trenches were excavated. Trench 3 was shortened to the south due to the ground being too soft for the machine. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and, in total, 525m of linear trenches were excavated. The topsoil was a soft and wet brown peat that lay above a natural that comprised light to mid-brown clay with frequent small to medium sub-angular stones. No archaeological structures, features or deposits were identified in any of the trenches. The proposed development will have no impact on any archaeology.
