Archaeological assessment of this site involved the excavation of a single test trench measuring 10m in total length and 1.8m in average width to the rear of three terraced houses, in an area of proposed extension. A rubble layer comprising sand, gravel and a mixture of large and small angular stone measuring 0.2m in depth overlay a dark brown garden soil with numerous roots. The rubble layer represented demolition material from previous structures/buildings at the rear of the houses. The garden soil extended to a depth of 0.4m at which point orange sandy boulder clay was exposed.
No deposits, features or finds of an archaeological nature were exposed. The proposed development will not have any archaeological impact and should proceed as planned. No further mitigation is recommended.
