The site at The Boat Trench, Ardee, Co. Louth, was archaeologically assessed by test trenching in June 2024 in advance of development. The assessment involved the excavation of nine trenches within the site, each measuring 1.8m in width with a total of 166m of linear trenches excavated. The test trenches were excavated
down to the natural subsoil, which varied from light yellow/brown gravel with stone over most of the site to a mid-brown clay in Trench 9 at the south of the site. No archaeological features or deposits were identified within the excavated trenches and post-medieval and modern pottery were the only finds recovered. The work is now complete, and no further mitigation is necessary.
