Test-excavations were carried out on 14 June 2024, in relation to the proposed construction of a 2-storey dwelling house on a c. 0.15-hectare residential site at Glendine, Kilkenny.

The site falls within the archaeological Zone of Notification (Zone ID: R139402) for an enclosure (KK019-011—-).

Test-excavation comprised the excavation of five test-trenches across the site. The test-trenches were 1.8m wide, with lengths varying from 15-20m, and maximum depths of 0.8-1.4m.

The stratigraphy of excavated material was generally consistent throughout all the excavated test-trenches, comprising a layer of modern made ground c. 0.5–0.7 in depth, overlying a layer of original topsoil consisting of dark-brown sandy silt c. 0.1–0.2m in depth. The topsoil overlay natural compact red-brown sandy silt with a moderate amount of small sized sub-rounded stones, and patches of light-grey coarse gravel.

No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified in any of the five excavated test-trenches.
