Archaeological monitoring for Uisce Éireann of the northern 500m section of rehabilitation of approximately 2574m of uPVC water main and all the associated assets on Annamult Road at Bennettsbridge took place between 27 June and 14 August 2023.
The works entailed excavation of a combination of open-cut trench and pits to accommodate horizontal directional drilling.
The northernmost section of the works achieved the surface of the 18th-century bridge material or composition, which was archaeologically recorded. The design of the pipe laying was modified to ensure the works did not intrude into the structure of the bridge.
