Monitoring was carried out of groundworks associated with the construction of a transformer cabin/kiosk and cabling trenches connecting it with photovoltaic panels at Banshagh, Clooncarrig, Killorglin, Co. Kerry.
The footprint of the transformer cabin/kiosk, measuring 3.5m by 7.7m, was reduced to a depth of 1.5-1.8m. Removed spoils were disturbed. Foundations of a switch room of a wastewater treatment plant were exposed. The switch room/plant was built in 1970/1980s, operated until 1990, and was demolished thereafter. Natural consisting of orange-yellow clay sand was exposed at a depth of c. 1.2m.
Test trenches were excavated along the eastern boundary of the site, measuring 1m in width and between 0.6-0.8m in depth. Natural was not exposed. Removed spoils were disturbed, and contained modern rubbish, including plastic bottles.
No archaeological features or finds were encountered.
