Four trenches were excavated by mini-digger across the line of the proposed reconstruction of the boundary wall of the Napoleonic-era Bray Head signal tower on Valentia Island. No archaeological features were noted on the line of the enclosing wall. It appears to have been built on the underlying rock, with no foundations.

One trench was excavated in the interior of the tower to assess the depth of concrete and level of original floor (if any). The original mortar floor of the tower, dating to c. 1805 was identified, 0.13m below the twentieth-century concrete floor.
