Licenced testing at Killelan East, Caherciveen Co. Kerry was undertaken in March 2024 at location of proposed new dwelling house. The proposed development site is situated partially within zone of notification of recorded children’s burial ground, KE079-014. A series of six test trenches (T1-T6) extending for c.210m were opened across the site. Topsoil varied in depth between 0.3m to 0.4m and comprised of mid-greyish brown to brown soft material. Subsoil consisted of light grey to greyish-orange clayey sand with various amount of sandstone inclusions. Nothing of archaeological interest was recorded in any other trenches and no artefacts were recovered during testing.
