Licensed archaeological testing at Lissatinnig, Mastergeehy, Co. Kerry was undertaken in February 2024. A recorded monument, KE081-025, classified as a ringfort, abuts the north-west limits of the proposed development site. A series of nine test trenches (T1-T9) extending for c.250m were opened across the site using a 3-ton mini digger with a flat 1m wide grading bucket. The three radial trenches (T1-T3) were excavated in the immediate vicinity of ringfort to establish its subsurface outermost limits. Evidence of the external ditch of the ringfort was found in T1 and T3 and a possible bowl furnace was also recorded in T1 a little to the east of outer limits of the ditch. Nothing of archaeological interest was recorded in any other trenches and no artefacts were recovered during testing.
