2024:881 - Prospecthill, Galway

Archaeological monitoring was carried out on a development site at Prospecthill, Co. Galway, on 2 October and 21 November 2024. The development site lies within the area of archaeological constraint for recorded monument GA094-147 (Ringfort – rath), a recently-identified monument located in the adjoining field to the east. The site displays a pronounced slope from the high ground fronting onto the road at northwest, to the low-lying ground in the south-east extent of the field.

Archaeological monitoring of topsoil strip revealed 0.25-0.35m of grey/brown sandy silt topsoil, over a thin layer of light orange/brown silty sand subsoil, over grey medium sand, gravel and stone. No archaeology was found.
