2024:588 - Cartron, Kinvarra, Galway

Archaeological test trenching and licensed metal detection of the site of 28 proposed residential units and all associated site works at Cartron, immediately south of the Kinvarra to Kiltartan road, did not identify archaeological features, deposits or artefacts. Ten trenches were excavated. Topsoil across the site was rich loam that ranged in thickness from 0.2m to 0.3m. The topsoil overlay orangish-brown sandy clay with frequent limestone bedrock and gravel patches. Some areas of light grey sandy clay glacial till were seen.
