Archaeological testing was carried out in May 2024 at Ardnadoman East, Loughrea, County Galway, in response to a planning condition. Topsoil consisted of a loose mid-brown clayey silt with an average depth of 0.2–0.4m. The subsoil consisted of a pale grey stoney clay with frequent small and moderate angular and sub-angular stones. A single area of archaeological potential was identified during the test trenching. This consisted of a shallow deposit (0.05m) of loose stone at the approximate location of the building indicated on the first edition Ordnance Survey map of 1841. No discernible structure, walling or foundation footings were identified during test trenching. An assortment of post-medieval ceramic fragments and metal objects were observed amongst the loose stone which align with this dating interpretation.
