These excavations followed on from a programme of archaeological monitoring carried out by Paul Duffy of IAC Archaeology under he same licence. Monitoring uncovered three areas of archaeological significance consisting of two subcircular pits, a cobbled surface and two further elongated pits. The archaeological excavation of these areas commenced on site on 16 July 2024 and was completed by 23 August 2024.
Archaeological excavations at Seatown Road Site 1 confirmed the presence of a field-boundary system early medieval/medieval in date (11th-12th century) situated at the north-east of the site while a medieval earth-cut well was retrieved at south. The remains of a possible rectangular dwelling and a stone-lined well, late medieval/early post-medieval in date (16th -17th century) were also uncovered. This chronology is supported by artefact date ranges as well as radiocarbon dates. The excavation at Site 1 also revealed a low density of shallow, post-medieval pits. The aforementioned features were sealed by a disturbed post-medieval levelling layer which was partially truncated by the modern housing which previously occupied the centre part of site.
The dwelling and the medieval well were preserved in situ.
