Archaeological monitoring of Site Investigations was carried out during September 2024. Works comprised the excavation of seven slit trenches, and two inspection pits for the drilling of two bore holes.
The investigations confirmed that the fragmented remains of a demolished Georgian terrace survive within the site, including a section of limestone wall and the remains of red brick and masonry features. These are likely to represent foundations of the structures, which are sealed by the demolition and levelling layer. It is possible that backfilled cellars are located along the portion of the site fronting onto York Street.
No archaeological material predating the construction of the residential terrace was noted during the course of the works.
