A monitoring programme took place on a site at Laughanstown, Co. Dublin from July to August 2024, based on the findings of an earlier testing programme completed by Antoine Giacometti (23E0771, Excavations Ref. 2023:684). The monitoring programme uncovered a number of burnt mound sites associated with numerous pits, eight possible troughs and a length of metalled surface expanding into a yard or work area at its western end.

In addition, a Bronze Age palstave axe head was retrieved from topsoil during the works.

A post-medieval trackway was also uncovered at the eastern end of the monitored area, which may be associated with the military camp from 1798 (DU026-127), which was located to the south of the site. A metal detector (Licence No. 24R0344) was used during the monitoring of topsoil to assess for additional finds associated with a military camp. The constraint zone associated with the camp extends into the southern portion of the proposed development. A number of artefacts were retrieved, though none were immediately identifiable as having a military origin.

Based on the results of the monitoring programme a full archaeological excavation of the identified features was recommended.
