Archaeological testing was carried out in an attempt to establish if any archaeological features associated with a ‘pit-field’ and possible medieval ditches discovered during Phase 1 of the development extend into the Phase 2 lands. Archaeological monitoring was required as a condition of planning and it was deemed prudent given the Phase 1 findings and the expected depth of overburden across the area, to test the area ahead of ground reduction works.
Testing took place over five days from 25 June 2024 and no trace of a continuation of the archaeological features identified during the Phase 1 development, or any other features, deposits or finds of archaeological interest were identified. Based on the extensive disturbance across most of the test area it is deemed that the presence of any surviving archaeological features, deposits or finds is very unlikely.
